Yom Teruah…Day of Shouting

Leviticus 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of [blowing of trumpets -#8643], an holy convocation.   25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yahweh.

Numbers 29:1 And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of [blowing the trumpets – #8643] unto you.

8643 t@ruw`ah {ter-oo-aw’}  •  from 7321; TWOT – 2135b; n f •  AV – shout 11, shouting 8, alarm 6, sound 3, blowing 2, joy 2, misc 4; 36 •  1) alarm, signal, sound of tempest, shout, shout or blast of war or alarm or joy 1a) alarm of war, war-cry,  battle-cry 1b) blast (for march) 1c) shout of joy (with religious impulse) 1d) shout of joy (in general)

Teruah is derived from the Hebrew word #7321

7321 ruwa` {roo-ah’}  •  a primitive root; TWOT – 2135; v •  AV – shout 23, noise 7, ..alarm 4, cry 4, triumph 3, smart 1, misc 4; 46 •  1) to shout, raise a sound, cry out, give a blast 1a) (Hiphil) 1a1) to shout a war-cry or alarm of battle 1a2) to  sound a signal for war or march 1a3) to shout in triumph (over enemies) 1a4) to shout in applause 1a5) to shout  (with religious impulse) 1a6) to cry out in distress 1b) (Polal) to utter a shout 1c) (Hithpolel) 1c1) to shout in  triumph 1c2) to shout for joy 2) (Niphal) destroyed

This feast day of the first day of the seventh month is commonly called “The Feast of Trumpets”.  But in the original Hebrew, no trumpets are actually mentioned.  Rather, the phrase “blowing of trumpets” has been translated from the single Hebrew word “teruah” and its root “ruwa”, which signifies the making of loud noise by an instrument like a trumpet or shouting as made by a human voice.  We see the Hebrew word “teruah” and its root word “ruwa” being translated as “shout/shouting”, “joyful noise”, and an “alarm” over and over in the Scriptures.

Psalm 89:15 Blessed is the people that know the [joyful sound -#8643}: they shall walk, O Yahweh, in the light of thy countenance.   16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

Psalm 27:6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of [joy – #8643]; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto Yahweh.

Psalm 98:4 Make a [joyful noise #7321] unto Yahweh, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.  5 Sing unto Yahweh with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.   6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a [joyful noise – #7321] before Yahweh, the King.

Psalm 81:1 Sing aloud unto Elohim our strength: make a [joyful noise #7321] unto the Elohim of Jacob.   2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.   3 Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

We see the Hebrew word “teruah” translated in Ezra as “great shout” as the Israelites began turning back to Yahweh and restoring the temple.  We also see “ruwa” translated as “shout” and “teruah” translated as “great shout” in Joshua when the walls of the city of Jericho fell down.

Ezra 3:11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto Yahweh; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a [great shout – #8643], when they praised Yahweh, because the foundation of the house of Yahweh was laid.   12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many [shouted – #8643] aloud for joy:   13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

Joshua 6:5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall [shout – #7321] with a [great shout – #8643]; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

20 So the people [shouted – #7321] when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people [shouted – #7321] with a [great shout – #8643], that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

“Teruah” or “ruwa” involving a human voice or by instrument is more than a loud sound.  It is a way to announce, transmit, or release Yahweh’s spiritual energy and to do supernatural deeds.  Some of the supernatural deeds include Yahweh returning the Israelites from captivity and restoring the temple, the destruction of the walls of Jericho without one Israelite casualty, and many victories won by Yahweh over the Israelites’ enemies.

So what is the significance of the Feast?  The Day of Shouting is part of Yahweh’s Feast Days (Leviticus 23).  It is Yahweh’s fourth High Day celebrated on the first day of the seventh month according to Yahweh’s calendar.  It was established as a memorial (Leviticus 23:24).   “Memorial” is the Hebrew word #2143 “zeker”, which also means “remembrance” and “memory”.  The Day of Shouting begins the fall feast days of Yahweh.  It is also part of the doctrine of Messiah.

Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Messiah, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward Yahweh (Passover/Unleavened Bread High Day #1),   2 Of the doctrine of baptisms and of laying on of hands (Unleavened Bread High Day #2 and Pentecost High Day #3), and of resurrection of the dead (Feast of Shouting High Day #4), and of eternal judgment (Last Great Day High Day #7).

For believers today, the significance of The Day of Shouting is the triumphant return of YahwehShua to set up His earthly kingdom with His saints.  Scriptures tell us that an earth-shaking trumpet will announce the most important and exciting event that will ever happen to humanity……the return of YahwehShua as King of Kings and Sovereign of Sovereigns.

1 Thessalonians 4:16 For YahwehShua himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump (#4536) of Yahweh: and the dead in Messiah shall rise first:

4536 salpigx {sal’-pinx}  •  perhaps from 4535 (through the idea of quavering or reverberation); TDNT – 7:71,997; n f •  AV – trumpet 9, trump 2; 11 •  1) a trumpet

Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:   30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.   31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet (#4536), and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded (#4537); and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Sovereign, and of his Messiah; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

4537 salpizo {sal-pid’-zo}  •  from 4536; TDNT – 7:71,997; v •  AV – sound 10, sound of a trumpet 1, trumpet sounds 1; 12 •  1) to sound a trumpet

YahwehShua will be seen by all mankind coming in the clouds with great power and glory.   Messiah is coming to rule the nations with an iron rod. This earthly kingdom of Messiah will be no democracy!

Mark 13:24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,   25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.   26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.   27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.

Luke 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;   26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.   27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.   28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

Revelation 1:5 And from YahwehShua Messiah, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,   6 And hath made us kings and priests unto Yahweh Elohim; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.   7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

Messiah will return to set up His earthly kingdom.   But before He can establish His earthly kingdom, He must make war and smite the nations.

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.   12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.   13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of Yahweh.   14 And the armies which were  in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.   15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty Yahweh.  16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND SOVEREIGN OF SOVEREIGNS.

Psalm 2:6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.   7 I will declare the decree: Yahweh hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.   8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.   9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Revelation 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.   13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.   14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Sovereign of sovereigns, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

But what is so miraculous about Messiah’s return is the state of the earth before He comes.  It is a time of great tribulation where the “gd” of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4), ha-satan, has been given control over the world, including to persecute the saints.

Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;   13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.   14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.   15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;   16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:   17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Revelation 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

Revelation 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.   6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against Yahweh, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.   7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.   8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.   9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.

Daniel 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.   24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings.   25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

Not only does this feast represent Messiah’s Second Coming to rule the nations on earth, it also represents the resurrection of believers.  With the great shout of Messiah’s Second Coming, those who are sealed by the Holy Spirit and are Messiah’s in all previous ages, will be resurrected to become glorified!

1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Messiah risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.   21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.   22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Messiah shall all be made alive.   23 But every man in his own order: Messiah the firstfruits; afterward they that are Messiah’s at his coming.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.   14 For if we believe that Yah’shua died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in YahwehShua will Elohim bring with him.  16 For YahwehShua himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of Yahweh: and the dead in Messiah shall rise first:    17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet YahwehShua in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Sovereign.   18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

John 11:25 Yah’shua said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Psalm 50:3 Our Elohim shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.   4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.  5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.  6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for Elohim is judge himself. Selah.

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in Elohim, believe also in me.   2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.   3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Believers from all previous and current ages will be part of the first resurrection at Messiah’s coming and will be Priests and Kings with Messiah for 1,000 years.

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of Yahweh and of Messiah, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

Amen.

Revelation 5:8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.   9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to Yahweh by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;   10 And hast made us unto our Elohim kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:   6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.   22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the assemblies.

And at the resurrection of believers when Messiah returns, we will be like Messiah and we shall see Him as He is!!!  We will be the sons of Yahweh!!!

1 John 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of Yahweh, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Romans 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.   19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of Yahweh.

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Messiah, seek those things which are above, where Messiah sitteth on the right hand of Yahweh.   2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.   3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Messiah in Yahweh.   4 When Messiah, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Sovereign YahwehShua Messiah:   21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

It is no wonder that we should make a joyful noise and sing praises unto Yahweh because His Son, YahwehShua, returns with the shout of an archangel and a great sound of a trumpet to rule the nations on earth.  At this time, believers from past and present ages will be resurrected to immortality and incorruptibility!  Rejoice, shout for joy, and praise Yahweh!

Psalm 28:7 Yahweh is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalm 40:16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, Yahweh be magnified.

Psalm 32:11 Be glad in Yahweh, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

Psalm 35:27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let Yahweh be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in Yahweh alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

Hebrew 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to Yahweh continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

This Day of Shouting is also a day to eat and drink to your heart’s content.  It is also a day to send food and drink to those who have little.

Nehemiah 8:2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.

10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Sovereign: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.  11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.   12 And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.

The Day of Shouting is a time of great rejoicing, knowing that our Savior will return to redeem us from these corruptible bodies and transform believers to become Sons of Yahweh.  Messiah will return with great fanfare at a time of global distress, a time of unrighteousness, and a time during which ha-satan is unrestrained.

This time of great distress, known as the “Great Tribulation”, is also a time of persecution of the saints.  Messiah will return to make war and destroy ha-satan and the kings of this earth in order to set up His kingdom on earth with His Saints.

At that time, Messiah will be King of Kings and Sovereign of Sovereigns and will rule the nations with an iron rod for a thousand years.  Earth will finally have a righteous leader!  Saints will become incorruptible, immortal, like Messiah, and will reign with Him for 1,000 years as Priests and Kings.  If that is nothing to make a joyful noise about, then I don’t know what is!

Psalm 98:4 Make a joyful noise unto Yahweh, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.   5 Sing unto Yahweh with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.   6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before Yahweh, the King.  7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.   8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together   9 Before Yahweh; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

HalleluYah
