Signposts of Messiah’s Return
Many times during my life while attending various churches, I heard over and over that Christ could return any second and that we need to be ready. The preachers at those churches made it seem like nothing needed to happen before Messiah (Hebrew for the Greek Christ) could return. As a I studied the Scriptures, it has become crystal clear that the second part of the preachers message, that we need to be ready, was true. But the first part that Messiah could return any time and that nothing needed to occur before His return was not Scriptural.
Why many believe that Messiah could return anytime has to do with their belief in the pre-tribulation “rapture” doctrine. This doctrine contains a “secret” return of Messiah to take away His saints before the Scriptural seven-year tribulation. But a detailed study of the Scriptures guided by the Holy Spirit showed that this doctrine is false and saints that are alive will have to endure the seven-year tribulation. And that the “rapture” or sometimes referred to in the Scriptures as the “catching up” of saints does not occur until Messiah Second Coming, which is after the seven-year tribulation. For more information on this important topic, please read “The Gathering of the Saints”.
So as we read the Scriptures, especially about the seven-year tribulation and the Second Coming of Messiah, what we find is that there are still many events that must occur before our Savior returns! What this article will explore is all the major events or “Signposts” that must occur before the Second Coming of Messiah and the catching up of both saints that are still alive and those that are in the grave.
It is interesting to note that those saints who died before Messiah’s Second Coming are not in Heaven, but are in the grave. Again, a detailed study of the Scriptures guided by the Holy Spirit showed that man does not currently have an immortal soul and does not go directly to Heaven or to the Lake of Fire (i.e. Hell) after he or she dies. For more information on this important topic, please read “Does Man have an Immortal Soul?”.
So before we start looking at all the major events or Signposts that must occur before Messiah’s Second Coming, there is another interesting comment that I heard over and over from preachers of churches I attended pertaining to Messiah’s return. What I heard over and over is that no one knows the day and time when Messiah will return. Again, coupled with Messiah could return at any time, and the preachers had a powerful message…unfortunately not all of it is true.
Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Sovereign, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
1 Thessalonians 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of Yahweh so cometh as a thief in the night.
So based on these Scriptures are we 100% sure no one will ever know the exact time of the return of our Savior? And of course to support this idea that no one knows when YahwehShua (resurrected name of our Savior) Messiah will return we have had over the last two thousand years many sincere folks believing in a specific date of Messiah’s return that have been dead wrong.
But let us think about this a little deeper. The fact we do not know the day today does not mean we will not know the day as we pass the many Signposts pointing to our Savior’s return. In fact, Yah’shua (name of Messiah while a man on earth) told the Pharisees that we should be able to “read the sky”. That is to see the signs that His return is imminent. Over and over in the Scriptures Yahweh has revealed what will happen, why it will happen and what the final outcome will be to those true saints that study and obey His teachings. This includes the Second Coming of Christ!
Matthew 16:1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Today we do not know the exact date when Messiah will return. Yet we are told in Matthew, Mark, and Luke to watch and pray about the return of our Savior. Yah’shua used the word “watch” to let us know that we need to be alert and discern the conditions of the world around us. Just like He told us that we are able to “read the sky” for weather, saints need to watch and pray so we understand where we are with the end of this age and the return of YahwehShua Messiah!
In Scriptures, there is the parable of the fig tree. Just like being able to discern the sky for coming weather, a fig tree has clear signs that will let its viewer know that summer is near. This is another example that we can use spiritual signs to determine when Messiah’s Second Coming is near. Therefore a true saint needs to understand current events, understand Yahweh’s spiritual Signposts, and how current events and Yahweh’s Signpost tie into His plan of this age.
Mark 13:28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near: 29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
Luke 21:29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. 31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of Yahweh is nigh at hand.
Matthew 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Amos 3:7 Surely the Sovereign Yahweh will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.
In fact, as we get closer to the return of YahwehShua Messiah that day of His return will not overtake us. Again we see the word “watch” in Apostle Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians. Those that are watching current world events, studying the Scriptures, and praying will not be shocked when our Savior returns. If we do these things, we will know when Messiah’s return is imminent and may even know that exact day. More on this later!
1 Thessalonians 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Revelation 3:2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before Elohim. 3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
The above verse in Revelation is implying that the ones who watch, YahwehShua will not come as a thief in the night. And this verse also implies that a true saint who watches will know the hour of our Saviors return. This matches up with 1 Thessalonians 5:4 that tells us the day Messiah returns to earth will not overtake us a thief. As a side note the English word hour in the above verse is translated from the Greek word “hora”, meaning any definite time, point of time, or moment. And lastly, we see in Daniel’s end time prophesy that even though the words are sealed up till “the time of the end” the wise, the ones that obey YahwehShua and his words, the ones who watch, shall understand their meaning.
Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
Saints who watch spiritual events unfold will be able to see clear Signposts of His return . So let us jump into the Scriptures to review some of the major Signposts that will happen before Messiah’s return. A great place to start is the Olivet Prophesies in Mathew, Mark, and Luke that are parallel Scriptures. Let us begin in the book of Matthew.
Matthew 24:3 And as he (Yah’shua) sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world (#165 aion, better translated as age)?
4 And Yah’shua answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Messiah; and shall deceive many.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Messiah, or there; believe it not.
24 For there shall arise false Messiahs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
The first Signpost mentioned about the end of the age is deception. Of course the world today is full of deception and it is hard sometimes to tell truth from a lie. We are currently living in a very deceptive world with lies abounding through social media channels and nightly news giving biased reporting based on whether they lien to the right or to the left. And unfortunately deception will only get worse as we get closer to our Savior’s return.
Daniel 8:23 ” And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes. 24 His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power (i.e. Satan’s power); He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people. 25 “Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without human means. (NKJ)
Yah’shua narrows the deception in verse 5 telling us that many will come in His name, saying that they are the Messiah and will deceive many. And if you drop down to verse 11 and 23-24, not only will there be false Messiah’s but false prophets that would show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. Strong words of the coming deception. It is interesting that Messiah tells us that many will come in His name. Could this verse possibly mean that these false Messiah’s will use Messiah’s human name, Yah’shua (Joshua)? Interesting speculation. Also think about this. Historically and presently the Jews are waiting for Messiah’s first arrival. This and the fact that most of the world does not understand that YahwehShua is returning a second time will make the deception easier. So a major Signpost of the end times will be a false messiah and false prophets showing great signs, miracles, and lying wonders to the world.
2 Thessalonians 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Sovereign shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause Yahweh shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon (i.e. Satan). 12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
Revelation 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Revelation 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image.
It is clear from the above Scriptures that Satan and his dominion (demons or fallen angels) have supernatural abilities including the ability to perform miracles. The only way not to be deceived is that a saint needs to understand this truth and take head of Messiah’s warnings. If you are not grounded in the Scriptures, there will be many anti-Messiah’s and false prophets in the end time that will be doing miracles and showing all kinds of signs and wonders that will fool many, including some of the very elect.
Before we move on, there is an interesting Signpost in the Scriptures we just read in Revelation 13:16-18. This Signpost is that the kingdoms that make up the “Beast” (more on this later) will require people to receive a mark on their right hand or foreheads to allow them to buy and sell. And this mark to buy and sell may apply not only to the kingdoms making up the Beast, but may apply worldwide.
Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. 4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If any man have an ear, let him hear.
Warning! Those who take the mark of the beast will be subject to the wrath of Yahweh. Therefore as we get closer to the end of this age, a saint needs to be keenly aware of this truth, so not to take the mark of the beast.
Revelation 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of Yahweh, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Revelation 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of Yahweh upon the earth. 2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.
One of the ways to not be deceived is to understand how the true Messiah is returning to earth. If a saint understands how YahwehShua Messiah is returning to earth, this will enable a believer to be not deceived by the many anti-messiahs and false prophets doing miracles and showing all kinds of signs and wonders during the end of this age.
With this in mind, let us look at the many Signposts of how our Savior is returning. First Signpost will be the condition of the earth. Messiah is returning after 3 ½ years of Great Tribulation. If YahwehShua Messiah didn’t return, Scriptures tell us that mankind would have destroyed itself (Matthew 24:22). Verse 28 below indicates before Messiah’s return, there will be dead bodies everywhere with flesh eating birds all around and that the sun will be darkened, moon will not be seen, and there will be great lights falling to earth with the heavens shaking. This could be an incredible picture of devastating nuclear war and the results of war. It is clear that when our Savior returns our physical universe will be disrupted in ways unimaginable.
But the good news found in verses 27, 30, 31, and other Scriptures tell us that an earth-shaking shout and trumpet will announce the most important and exciting event that will ever happen to humanity, the return of YahwehShua Messiah. And that all will see YahwehShua returning to the earth in the clouds like lighting in the sky (verse 27). So, there will be nothing secret about Messiah’s return with everyone seeing and hearing the supernatural return of our Savior. Very important Signpost indeed!
27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For YahwehShua himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump (#4536) of Yahweh: and the dead in Messiah shall rise first:
4536 salpigx {sal’-pinx} • perhaps from 4535 (through the idea of quavering or reverberation); TDNT – 7:71,997; n f • AV – trumpet 9, trump 2; 11 • 1) a trumpet
Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet (#4536), and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Also see Mark 13:24-27 and Luke 21:25)
Revelation 1:5 And from YahwehShua Messiah, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto Yahweh and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Our Savior is returning to earth in a certain prophesied way. A saint needs to understand this truth so not to be deceived by the many false messiahs and prophets during the end times doing miracles and showing all types of signs and wonders.
Let us continue on in the Olivet Prophesy returning to verse 6 on our study of the Signposts of the end time and return of our Savior.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation (#1484 ethnos…could be translated as ethnic or race) shall rise against nation (#1484 ethnos), and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquake (#4578 seismos…severe weather) in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
A reader needs to stop and understand that although we are experiencing constant reports of ethnic/race group against ethnic/race group, nations at odds against one another, wars and rumors of wars, famine, pestilence (current COVID-19), and earthquakes (this Greek word translated as earthquakes is better translated as severe weather events), YahwehShua Messiah tells us that this is just the beginning. In both Matthew and Mark, “beginning of sorrows”, could be translated as “birth pangs”. Messiah was using an analogy of a woman in labor. We know as a women gets closer to birth, the frequency and intensity of her birth pangs increase. So a Signpost that we are getting closer to the end of this age will be the frequency and severity of hatred, war, famine, pestilence, severe weather events, and death until the birth of a new Kingdom on earth where YahwehShua Messiah will be King of kings and Satan will finally be removed as prince of this earth and bound for 1,000 years (see Revelation 20:1-3/Romans 16:20/Isaiah 14:12-15).
Before we continue, I want to delve into the Greek word seismos, translated as earthquakes for a minute. Strong’s Lexicon defines seismos as a “a commotion, i.e. (of the air) a gale, (of the ground) an earthquake. So seismos has a broader meaning than being translated earthquake. In Matthew 8 there is recorded a violent storm that overtook Yah’shua and His disciples on the Sea of Galilee. This storm threatened to capsize their boat and drown them until Yah’shua miraculously calmed the winds and waves. The word used in verse 28 for this powerful storm is seismos. So we see that seismos can also refer to violent storms and isn’t limited strictly to earthquakes. This prophesy of increased “seismos” in the end times really lines up with global weather changes we have been experiencing with the number and severity of hurricanes/typhoons/cyclones, tornados and other such severe weather events. And if we read a parallel account of the Olivet prophecy in Luke 21:25, the distress of the nations is tied to the sea and waves roaring. “And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;”
So a Signpost of the end of this age will be birth pangs of prophesied events increasing in frequency and intensity signaling that the birth of a new age is around the corner. And if we look at verses 21 and 22 of the Olivet prophesy, the birth pangs will get so intense during the last 3½ years (Great Tribulation), that if those days were not shortened by the return of YahwehShua Messiah, no flesh would be saved.
21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
During the Great Tribulation, there will be incredible wars, intense hatred, disease, severe weather events and death. But the Good News of the Evangel is that Messiah is returning to save the world from destruction and will set up a new age where YahwehShua Messiah will be King of kings and Sovereign of sovereign ruling on Earth with His saints for 1,000 years. More on the Great Tribulation later in this article.
Continuing on in the Olivet Prophesy in Matthew to gain additional Signposts of the end of this age, we read the following.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
The end of this age will be a time when saints will be persecuted. Therefore a major Signpost of the end of this age will be the persecution of the saints. And for there to be a noted persecution of the saints, there also must be a rapid expansion of Yahweh’s true assembly compared to where we are today. And this rapid expansion of Yahweh’s true assembly will be tied to the preaching of the true Evangel worldwide and the explosion of knowledge, which we will cover later in this article.
In fact we see Satan and his dominion will have no restraints against Yahweh’s children during the Great Tribulation.
Daniel 7:23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. 24 And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Revelation 13:5 And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against Yahweh, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of Yahweh, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
And not only will Satan and his dominion be unrestraint during the Great Tribulation, Scriptures tells us that inequity will abound and that the love of many will grow cold, including the love of the brethren. And that brothers and sisters in Messiah will betray each other even unto death. Another Signpost of Messiah’s imminent return.
Mark 13:9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them. 10 And the evangel must first be published among all nations. 11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. 2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth Yahweh’s service. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
Yahweh warns us that a time will come when worshipers of Yahweh will turn on each other, casting true worshipers out of the body FOR HIS NAME SAKE! Selah (i.e. think about it). As conditions worsen, many frightened saints will grow fearful, turn away from the truth, and betray each other. Others may have had a form of holiness but will be so deceived by the false messiah and false prophets that they will turn on true saints. Remember, Satan will have been cast down to earth, knowing his time is short (Revelation 12:12-17). And having power to persecute the saints without restraint, will do anything to disrupt Yahweh’s plan of the ages.
Luke 21:10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: 11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. 12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake.
16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. 17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake.
Isaiah 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. 5 Hear the word of Yahweh, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name’s sake, said, Let Yahweh be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.
Matthew 10:21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
And not only does the Olivet Prophesy tell us of the tribulation of the saints, but also tells us that the Good News of the Evangel will be preached to all nations. The Good News being about Messiah and His coming Kingdom on earth.
14 And this evangel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
With the advent of the internet, the proliferation of smart phones, and the continued development of rapid electronic communications, the evangel of Messiah and His coming kingdom on earth can be easily spread worldwide. Couple the advance in communication technology with Yahweh’s two witnesses in the book of Revelation, and we see another significant Signpost of the end of this age is the preaching of the true evangel worldwide.
The two witnesses will preach the evangel during the last 3 ½ years (1,260 days) or up until the eminent return of Messiah. Yahweh will protect the two witnesses from the beast and false prophet until they have finished their testimony. The two witnesses will stand in opposition to the Beast and the False Prophet. Once they have finished their testimony, they will be killed. Note that everyone will see their dead bodies after their testimony is completed confirming that their testimony of Messiah and His coming kingdom was preached throughout the world.
We also know Daniel’s prophesy about the time of the end indicates that knowledge will increase “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” So the increase in knowledge, especially knowledge about the Messiah’s coming kingdom and the preaching of this coming kingdom by the two witnesses to the world for 3 ½ years are key Signposts of the end times.
Revelation 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the Elohim of the earth. 5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. 6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. 7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. 8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Sovereign was crucified. 9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. 10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
Lastly, we see angels (which can be translated as messengers of Yahweh) preaching the evangel “to every nation, tribe, tongue (i.e. language) and people” during the end of this age. So, not only will the two witnesses be preaching the evangel worldwide, but there will also be messengers of Yahweh preaching the evangel.
Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting evangel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear Elohim, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Let continue in the Olivet Prophesy to glean additional Signposts of the end of this age.
15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
Reading verse 15 and looking at other Scriptures, one of the major Signpost that we are close to Messiah’s return is the construction of the third temple in Jerusalem. Of course Jews would have to control at a minimum the part of Jerusalem where the temple would be built. This Signpost of a Jewish homeland and control of parts of Jerusalem has already occurred with the formation of the country of Israel in 1948. Although the Jews control parts of Jerusalem, they do not control the Temple Mount, where the third temple will be built. Therefore, there is still a part of prophecy that has not been fulfilled and is a Signpost when there is either direct takeover of the Temple Mount or a sharing arrangement with the Arab Muslims who control the Temple Mount. As we will read in Scriptures, it appears there will be a sharing arrangement. And for this to occur, it is highly likely that there would be a middle east war with the Muslims loosing, since the Muslims control the Temple Mount and would never give up control of the Temple Mount willingly.
And this war could trigger another Signpost of the end of this age consisting of a covenant that the Anti-Messiah will make for one week, which is Bible speak for seven years (see Daniel 9:27). This event will solidify Satan’s chosen man at the end of this age and will be the miraculous covenant for peace in the Middle East the world has been waiting for.
A quick history lessons shows us that the first temple was built by King Solomon, through the instruction of Yahweh, around 952 BC. That first temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar as the Jews were removed from Judah and taken captive into Babylon. The second temple was completed with the return of the Jews from exile around 516 BC and was enlarged and rebuilt by Herod the Great around 20BC. That second temple was destroyed in 70AD by the Roman general Titus.
The reason we know that a third temple must be built is based not only verse 15, but several other verses in the New Testament. Verse 15 shows Yah’shua speaking of a future event predicted by Daniel the prophet (See Daniel 9:27, 11:31-32 and 12:11) when the temple in Jerusalem would suffer ultimate defilement by a false Messiah who claims to be Elohim (i.e. the abomination of desolation). Since only a properly consecrated temple can be defiled, this passage implies a functioning, dedicated third temple and priesthood in existence at the end of this age before the Second Coming of Messiah. “15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)”
This prophesy about an abomination of desolation that defiles Yahweh’s temple in Jerusalem has more than one fulfillment. The first defilement of the temple occurred about 200 years earlier when Antiochus Epiphanes defiled the second temple with pagan idols and by sacrificing swine’s flesh on the altar (Daniel 9:27). Again, the second fulfillment of the defilement of the temple will occur before Messiah’s return. There is also another reference to this defilement of the temple at the end of this age in Apostle Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians.
2 Thessalonians 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Sovereign YahwehShua Messiah, and by our gathering together unto him, 2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Messiah is at hand. 3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called Elohim, or that is worshipped; so that he as Elohim sitteth in the temple of Elohim, shewing himself that he is Elohim.
Finally, the existence of a third temple at the close of this age is confirmed in the Book of Revelation with a description of a sharing arrangement of the temple court with gentiles due to the take over of Jerusalem by the Gentiles.
Revelation 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of Yahweh, and the altar, and them that worship therein. 2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
An interesting side note is not only will there be a third temple which more than likely will be destroyed during the Great Tribulation, but the prophet Zechariah and Ezekiel (read chapters 40-45 and 48) describes a fourth temple where Yahweh Messiah will reside during His 1,000-year reign.
Zechariah 6:13 Yes, He shall build the temple of Yahweh. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” ‘
And lastly, we know that when the Anti-Messiah defiles the temple, this will start the last three and half years of the Tribulation, better know as the Great Tribulation. This is a time of trouble like no other time on earth (see prophesies in Isaiah 13:9 & 13 and Jeremiah 30:7) because the Devil knows his time is short (see Revelation 12:12) and if Messiah doesn’t return, all flesh would perish (see Matthew 24:22).
And not only will the 3rd Temple be defiled by the anti-messiah; Jerusalem will be dominated by the Gentiles. And as we just read in the book of Revelation 11:2 this domination of Jerusalem by the Gentiles will last 3 ½ years during the Great Tribulation and is another Signpost of Messiah’s return is coming . So whatever gains the Jews made to secure the temple mount and build their third temple, they will lose much if not all of their gain during the Great Tribulation. We already read in the Olivet Prophesy of the Anti-Messiah taking over the temple and Jews fleeing to the mountains, “15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:”
Zechariah 12:2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. 3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.
Luke 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
The defilement of the temple by the anti-messiah and the take-over of Jerusalem by the gentiles will be a major Signpost of the start of the Great Tribulation and that we only 3 ½ years away from the return of Messiah and the end of this age. So, how do we know that the Great Tribulation will last 3 ½ years? We have both Old Testament and new Testament Scriptures that indicate a 3 ½ year time frame. As you read the below verses, a time is a year, times is two years and half of a time is a half year, giving us 3 ½ years. We also confirmed the 3 ½ years period in Revelation 11:3 with the preaching of the Kingdom of Yahweh by the two witnesses.
Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
5 Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. 13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. 14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
The Great Tribulation is a time of incredible worldly distress. With the “birth pangs” increasing in frequency and accelerating during the Great Tribulation, saints will see incredible wars with nation (ethnic/race group) against nation (ethnic/race group), kingdoms (countries/alliances) against kingdoms (countries/alliances), famine/severe hunger, pestilences/diseases, severe weather events, and incredible amount of death. Let us take a sample of the prophesied horrific events that will unfold during the Great Tribulation.
First we will see during the Great Tribulation the revival of the Holy Roman Empire, prophesied in the books of Daniel and Revelation. A Signpost of the end times is a mind-bending unorthodox amalgamation of 10 kings/nations/alliances that will come together and will be known as the “beast” per the book of Revelation and this “beast” will gain its power from Satan. And this power block known as the “beast” will come about because of devastating war (nuclear?) that will bring the nations to their knees and force them to give up their sovereignty to a system that promises to bring peace to the earth. By a series of apparent miracles, a world in crisis is persuaded to accept this system.
And the world will worship the beast and ask “who will be able to make war with him” (Revelation 13:4) and we see that the “beast has authority over every tribe, tongue and nation (Revelation 13:7). The intended goal of the beast system will be to bring order, peace and prosperity among the warring factions of humanity. But once “peace” is attained, the attractive mask will be removed to reveal a hideous system that will tear and destroy any opposition to its rule and authority. The desire of the ages, which is peace, will prove elusive one more time when left up to man. Let us look at the prophesies of the beast in both in the Book of Revelation and Daniel. And as we read these passages, the beast not only describes this power block of kings/nations/alliances, it also describes the leader, an actual person, who is the head of this group.
Revelation 13:1 And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. 2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon (i.e. Satan) gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
Revelation 12:3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
Looking at the book of Daniel, we have a picture of this 10 kings/nations/alliances beast system . This picture comes from the description of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream found in Daniel 2. In that dream there was an image with the head of gold (Babylonian empire), chest and arms of silver (Medes and Persian empire), belly and thighs of bronze (Greek empire), legs of iron (Roman empire) and feet and toes (10 toes) made up of both iron and clay (coming beast empire). The different parts of this image represents kingdoms. The last part of the image suggest the coming beast system consisting of the resurgence of the Roman Empire (i.e. iron) mixed with another element, clay. It is interesting to note that clay is not strong, while iron is very strong. And that clay does not bind with iron. Verse 42 indicates that this kingdom will be partly strong (iron) and partly broken (clay not mixing with iron). Clay may represent a democratic system, that is the will of the people, trying to coexist with anti-messiah’s dictatorial ways (iron).
Daniel 2:32 This image’s head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass, 33 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. 34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands (Messiah), which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces. 35 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.
41 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. 43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings shall the Elohim of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
And as we continue in Daniel, there is another prophesy about 10 horns/kings in the seventh chapter linking with the 10 toes in Nebuchadnezzar’s image. And these 10 horns (which can mean power in Hebrew) will devour the whole earth and make war with the saints.
Daniel 7:9 Then I would know the truth of the fourth beast, which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass; which devoured, brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with his feet; 20 And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. 21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; 22 Until the Ancient of days (another name for Messiah) came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom. 23 Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.
Lastly we see a reference in Revelation about 10 kings that will give their power to the beast. Although the Scriptures indicate this time frame is one hour, this is probably a metaphor for a short period of time and possibly correlate with the 3 ½ year Great Tribulation or the time period known as “the day of Yahweh”. More on this later.
Revelation 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Sovereign of sovereigns, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
As the new European political and military power develops (i.e. The Beast), an influential religious leader over a powerful religious organization will work with the Beast to provide guidance and unity to this superpower. The book of Revelation refers to this religious organization as “the great whore” and “the mother of harlots” and its leader as “the false prophet”. In Scriptures a woman is not only used to represent Israel and the true Body of Messiah (see 2 Corinthians 11:2, Revelation 12 and Revelation 19:7-9), but counterfeit religion.
So a major Signpost of the end of this age and return of Messiah will be a false church headed by a false prophet who will be aligned with the “beast system”. This false religious system will have influential relationships that will reach the highest political and social circles throughout the world. And as we already discussed the false prophet will be powerful and do amazing signs and wonders to deceive many. And this false prophet will be powered by Satan. And as we read below in Revelation 13 the false prophet “had two horns like a lamb and he spoke like a dragon”.
Revelation 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of YahwehShua: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.
Revelation 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and Elohim hath remembered her iniquities.
The False Prophet and the evil dictator of the Beast System will rule over “Babylon”, the headquarters of the evil worldwide system that entangles everything spiritually, commercially, and culturally. And as we already covered, the Beast System will require his servants to receive a mark on their right hand or forehead to allow them to buy and sell. The evil dictator of the Beast System and the False Prophet will be worshipped by their servants whose names are not written in the Book of Life and will persecute saints who do not take the mark of the beast nor worshipped his image (see Revelation 13:7-8 and 15-18). But when the real Messiah sends down plagues to begin the process of overthrowing the greedy and evil empire known as the Beast during the “Day of Yahweh” we read in Revelation that “the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:” (Revelation 18:11).
Before we move on in the Olivette Prophesy about end time events, let us briefly review parts of the Book of Revelation and how this book correlates with the Olivette Prophesy and end time events. Let us start with the seven seals found in chapter 6 of the Book of Revelation.
First the white horse found in the first seal represents the coming Satan inspired religious deception. We find that this white horse is similar to the white horse that Messiah rides when returning to earth to set up his kingdom (Revelation 19:11). So this white horse represents a counterfeit messiah. And this white horse (i.e. counterfeit messiah) has a bow and crown used to conquer. This ties into the Olivette Prophecy in Matthew of religious deception and that many shall come in Messiah’s name and shall deceive many.
Revelation 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. 2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
The fiery red horse found in the second seal represents devastating wars and death between ethnic/race groups and nations. Even the color red signifies blood and war. We see that the one who sat on the fiery red horse was granted to take peace from the earth and was given him a great sword to kill. Again this ties into the Olivette Prophecy in Matthew about devasting wars and rumors of wars. And that nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom.
3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. 4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
The black horse found in the third seal represents famine and severe hunger which comes naturally after war and lack of peace. The one who sat on the black horse had pair of scales with the cost of basic food items (barley, oil and wine) being incredibly expense indicating a disruption in the food supply. Again, this ties into the Olivette Prophesy of food shortages and famine.
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
Lastly, the pale or green horse, from the Greek word chloros, (fourth seal) represents pestilence/disease and death (which ties into the Olivette Prophesy in Matthew). We see that death and the grave (from the Greek word “hades”) followed this horse and that power was given to kill a fourth of the earth. Let’s stop for a minute and let that sink in. If the population of the world at that time is close to our current world population of 7.6 billion, that means 1.9 billion people will die. Keep in mind that the breakdown in social structure that inevitably results from war and famine will no doubt lead to massive and widespread epidemics and death. Therefore a Signpost of the end times will be the initial death of 25% of the world population. An interesting thought is that the death of 25% of the world population may be the catalyst for ushering in the beast system.
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. 8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell (Greek word “hades” better translated as “the grave”) followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
Let us continue on with the seven seals and how they relate to the Olivette Prophesy. The fifth seal is tied to the persecution and death of the saints. This ties into what we already covered in Olivette Prophesy (Matthew 24:9-12) about the persecution of the saints.
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of Yahweh, and for the testimony which they held: 10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Sovereign, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? 11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
Continuing on, the six seal indicates there will be awesome and fearful heavenly signs and destruction to earth. The descriptions of the heaven’s departing as a scroll and every mountain and island moving out of their places in verse 14 below may be describing a nuclear war.
And it appears without the return of YahwehShua Messiah, mankind and planet earth would be completed annihilated. Again, this ties into the Olivette Prophesy found in Matthew 24:22: And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened” and Matthew 24:29: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:” And we see at this point in prophesy begins the wrath of Yahweh or “The Day of Yahweh” (more on this later).
We also find prophesy of terrible times in the book of Joel 2:30-31: “And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of Yahweh come.”
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. 14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Zephaniah 1:14 The great day of Yahweh is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of Yahweh: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. 17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against Yahweh: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
The seventh seal in Revelation ushers in the seven trumpets. Let us look at a summary of the first four trumpets:
First Trumpet – Hail and fire mingled with blood cast to the earth and 1/3 of all trees were burned up and all green grass was burned up.
Second Trumpet – Great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea and 1/3 of sea became blood. And 1/3 of the creatures in the sea died and 1/3 of the ships were destroyed.
Third Trumpet – Great burning star fell upon 1/3 part of the rivers and fountains of water and they become undrinkable. Many people died because of the undrinkable water.
Fourth Trumpet – 1/3 part of the sun/moon/stars were darkened and a third of the day and night was without light.
With the earth turned upside down with darkness, destruction, and death from the first four trumpets, the fifth trumpet is sounded. And after the fifth trumpet is sounded, the bottomless pit is opened and “locusts” will arise out of this pit. However, these “locust” in Revelation are apparently not insects but machines as we read the “locust” had “breastplates of iron and the sound of their wings….like sound of chariots”. From John’s first century perspective the description of these “locust” could be referring to deadly military aircraft such a modern helicopter. And these “locust” tortured people as with the sting of a scorpion (Revelation 9:1-10).
The leader of this wave of affliction is described as “the angel of the Abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in the Greek Apollyon. These titles in Hebrew and Greek mean “destruction” or “destroyer”, respectively. And we see later that the Satan led “Beast” power emerges from this abyss or bottom less pit (Revelation 17:8), showing that the “locusts” are probably the forces of this Europe centered power block directed by Satan and know as the Beast.
The sixth trumpet ushers in an incredible war where a third part of man are killed by an army totaling 200 million. First if we do the math, we already know that ¼ of the world population or 1.9 billion have already been killed. And if we add another 1/3 of the world population killed during this incredible war, than we would add another 1.9 billion deaths for a total of 3.8 billion or 50% of the world population. Plus we know prior to this event, at the third trumpet, many people died because of the undrinkable water. The other incredible part of this scriptures is the 200 million army deployed during this war.
Revelation 9:13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before Yahweh, 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them. 17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. 18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
Let’s take a detour and look at meaning behind “the day of Yahweh” that we just read in Joel and Zephaniah, plus the following Scriptures.
Acts 2:9 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of Yahweh come:
Isaiah 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of Yahweh is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt: 8 And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames. 9 Behold, the day of Yahweh cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
First of all, the Biblical phrase “the day of Yahweh” usually refers to a time Yahweh powerfully intervenes in world events to punish evil, including the return of YahwehShua Messiah. And we know that Messiah is returning to earth to make war with the nations, including retaking Jerusalem (Revelation 19:11-16) to set-up His earthly kingdom. Second, the Greek and Hebrew words translated as day does not necessarily mean a 24-hour time frame, but a period of time. And prior to Messiah returning we know that many devastating events will happen to the beast system and its followers. So when the Scriptures refer to this time period as “the day of Yahweh”, “day” may not really mean 24 hours.
And if you think about it, there are so many things that happen by Messiah against the beast system and those who took the mark of the beast, that “the day of Yahweh” could not be a 24-hour time period. We find an example in the book of Revelation pertaining to a 5-month period of time where Yahweh torments men (i.e. mankind) who do not have the seal of Yahweh on their foreheads.
Revelation 9:3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of Yahweh in their foreheads. 5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
Revelation 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
And it seems very likely that all to some of the seven trumpets just covered and all the seven plagues/bowls found in the Revelation 16 are more than likely tied to “the day of Yahweh” and could be additional proof that “the day of Yahweh” is not be a 24-hour time period, but a longer time period. And as we read in Revelation 15:, the seven last plagues are tied to Yahweh’s wrath: “And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of Yahweh.” It is important to remember that these seven plagues represent the final aspect of the seventh trumpet where the seventh angel proclaim in Revelation 11:15 “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Yahweh, and of his Messiah; and he shall reign for ever and ever.”
Let look at a summary of the seven last plagues/bowls.
First Plague/Bowl – Foul and loathsome sores come upon the people who accepted the Mark of the Beast
Second Plague/Bowl – Sea turns to blood and all sea creatures die
Third Plague/Bowl – Springs and rivers turn to blood
Fourth Plague/Bowl – Sun scorches humanity with great heat and mankind blasphemes Elohim. Yet they do not repent.
Fifth Plague/Bowl – Beast’s seat of government afflicted with darkness and pain. Again mankind continues to blaspheme Elohim and still does not repent.
Six Plague/Bowl – Euphrates river dries up and armies of the East gather at Armageddon which is near Jerusalem (more on this later).
Seventh Plague/Bowl – Great Earthquake and hail. The cities of the nations fall. Men continue to blaspheme Elohim.
Lastly we see many Scriptures where the word “day” in the Scriptures is used to reference a year in time. In fact there are many Scriptures that tie Yahweh’s day of vengeance to a year period of time, including one tied to Jerusalem (Zion).
Isaiah 34:8 For it is the day of Yahweh’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
Isaiah 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of Yahweh, and the day of vengeance of our Elohim; to comfort all that mourn;
Isaiah 63:4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.
So we conclude that “the day of Yahweh” at the end of this age is more than likely a year-long and is the last year of the Great Tribulation. And this year period of time that constitutes “the day of Yahweh” culminates in Messiah taking over Jerusalem and the nations. So a major Signpost before the return of Messiah is the suffering of the beast system and its followers, including sores, scorching heat, darkness, and pain culminating with the gathering of the nations to completely take over Jerusalem. This is when the Euphrates river dries up and the armies of the nations are gathered at Armageddon (sixth plague/bowl), which is just outside of Jerusalem. Armageddon is a Hebrew word that means Mount of Megiddo, which is an actual place outside of Jerusalem approximately 55 miles north of Jerusalem.
The complete take-over of Jerusalem by the nations will trigger the return of Messiah and His saints who will make war with the nations, including taking over Jerusalem. Messiah’s return with His saints will include an earthquake and storms more devasting than any that people have ever experienced including a hailstorm that will rain down hailstones that weigh perhaps 75-100 pounds each as described in Revelation 16:17-21 (seventh plague/bowl). The nations including the Beast system will fall with the final battle being Jerusalem. The prophet Zechariah records the fate of the armies that came against Messiah at Jerusalem and it is not pretty.
Zechariah 14:1 Behold, the day of Yahweh cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. 3 Then shall Yahweh go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. 4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
9 And Yahweh shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Yahweh, and his name one.
Zechariah 14:12 And this shall be the plague wherewith Yahweh will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great tumult from Yahweh shall be among them; and they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbour, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbour. 14 And Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance.
Zephaniah 3:8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith Yahweh, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy. 9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Yahweh, to serve him with one consent.
Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of Yahweh. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty Yahweh. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND SOVEREIGN OF SOVEREIGNS. 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great Elohim; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
As a side note, if you do the math on the prophesied number of people who will die during the Great Tribulation, it appears not much of the world population will remain. Besides the 50% prophesied deaths already covered, there are other prophesied wars, plagues and famines not covered in this article and there will be many that will die in the final battle of Armageddon/Jerusalem, where the nations make war with Messiah and His saints. And if you read Revelation 14:18-20, the great “winepress of the wrath of Yahweh”, blood came out of the wine press up to horse bridal one thousand six hundred furlongs, which is 200 miles. That is a lot of dead folks!
One could speculate that you could see only 10-20% of the world population remaining when Messiah takes control of the earth and sets up His kingdom. If you do the math on 7.6 billion people currently alive, during the Great Tribulation 6 to 7 billion people will perish. Selah (i.e. think about it).
Let us get back to the Olivette Prophesy and pick up where we left off.
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
We have already touched on these verses, except for verse 34. So, what is Messiah telling us that this generation shall not pass till all be fulfilled? What Yah’shua is telling us is that the course of end-time events would not continue indefinitely once set-in motion. All of these end-time events would occur within the lifetime of one generation and would not pass to the next generation.
Let us continue to read in the Olivet Prophesy in the book of Matthews about the condition of man’s heart at the end of this age. This is another Signpost of the end of this age.
37 But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Messiah used the example of Noah’s day to reveal the attitudes that would predominate during the end of this age. Like during the time of Noah, people would be unconcerned as to their true spiritual conditions and sin would abound. Let us review what it was like during Noah’s time.
Genesis 6:5 And Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
11 The earth also was corrupt before Elohim, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And Elohim looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
Most will be blind to the Second Coming of our Savior and the coming Kingdom of Heaven on earth. Even with the preaching of the evangel worldwide by the Two Witnesses and the angles/messengers of Yahweh. The Apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy similarly foretold of the mind-set that would dominate people’s thinking in the last days. It is interesting to note that the Apostle Paul is describing the overall attitude and outlook of our current times. So another Signpost of the end times is a continued decay of society and proliferation of false religions (vs 5) around the world.
2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of Yahweh; 5 Having a form of righteousness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain Elohim in their knowledge, Elohim gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of Yahweh, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of Yahweh, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Let us finish the Olivet Prophesy in the book of Matthew:
40 Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Sovereign doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his sovereign hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his sovereign when he cometh shall find so doing.
47 Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My sovereign delayeth his coming;
49 And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
50 The sovereign of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
We finally end the Olivette Prophesy with how we started this article. That saints need to watch and be ready for the return of our Savior. As verse 47 indicates, Messiah will make the faithful and wise servant rulers over all His goods. Selah (i.e. think about it). But to those who are not faithful to the end and do not keep watch, their destiny will be the Lake of Fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
We conclude this article with some good news for saints that have to endure the Tribulation. Scriptures are clear that saints who are alive will have to endure the tribulation before YahwehShua Messiah returns to set up His magnificent Kingdom on earth. Again, for more information on this important topic, please read “The Gathering of the Saints”. And because saints will go through the tribulation, many saints will suffer. Although Scriptures tell us that many saints will suffer during the great tribulation, we also see many Scriptures showing there may be some protection for saints who keep Yahweh’s commandments during these difficult times. So it is imperative that believers watch for the many Signposts of Messiah’s return so not be deceived, believers need to pray that Yahweh will strengthen us through these difficult times to do His will, and lastly believers must obey His word. And if we do these things, we may be counted worthy to escape all these terrible things that shall come to pass at the end of this age.
Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Yahweh thy Elohim, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am Yahweh that healeth thee.
Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that Yahweh thy Elohim, he is Elohim, the faithful Elohim, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;
15 And Yahweh will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.
Luke 13:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. 26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed. 27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. 28 For Yahweh loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Zephaniah 2:3 Seek ye Yahweh, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of Yahweh’s anger.
Revelation 12:14 And to the woman (can be symbolic for the Body of Messiah) were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
And finally this amazing passage found in the Book of Psalms about Yahweh’s protection of His faithful saints that may also be a reference to the Great Tribulation at the end of this age.
Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress: my Elohim; in him will I trust. 3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. 4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; 6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. 9 Because thou hast made Yahweh, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
HalleluYah
