Should Saints Vote?
Most Bible students believe being involved in politics and voting is their civic and patriotic duty. They believe the Scriptures command them to participate in political activities including electing leaders. What this article will explore is whether or not true saints should be involved in politics.
The first clue that saints should take a hard look at getting involved in politics and voting is that Scriptures tell us that believers’ “citizenship is in heaven”.
Philippians 3:18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the stake of Messiah: 19 whose end is destruction, whose elohim is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame — who set their mind on earthly things. 20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Sovereign YahwehShua Messiah (NKJ).
Ephesians 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of Yahweh; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, YahwehShua Messiah himself being the chief corner stone; 21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in Sovereign: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of Yahweh through the Spirit.
The above Scriptures plainly state that saints’ “citizenship is in heaven”. Of course, all true believers are also citizens of at least one country on Earth. But this Earthly citizenship is not their primary citizenship.
The Greek word for citizenship is “politeuma”. Our English word “politics” comes from this word! Yes, saints should be involved in politics but the politics they should be involved with is the politics of Heaven. That is why saints are described as Heaven’s ambassadors to earth.
Ephesians 6:19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the evangel, 20 For which I am an ambassador (#4243) in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
2 Corinthians 5:19 that is, that Yahweh was in Messiah reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors (#4243) for Messiah, as though Yahweh were pleading through us: we implore you on Messiah’s behalf, be reconciled to Yahweh. (NKJ)
4243 presbeuo {pres-byoo’-o} • from the base of 4245; TDNT – 6:681,931; v • AV – ambassador 2; 2 • 1) to be older, prior by birth or in age 2) to be an ambassador, act as an ambassador
4245 presbuteros {pres-boo’-ter-os} • comparative of presbus (elderly); TDNT – 6:651,931; adj • AV – elder 64, old man 1, eldest 1, elder woman 1; 67 • Elderly, older, senior, presbyter, elder (1)
- And we know that although men are elders, women in their role as ambassadors for Messiah have the opportunity to act as senior representatives for Messiah and His evangel.
Ambassador (definition) – representative or messenger of own government while living in another country. Of Latin origin and has the meaning of “servant” or “minister”.
And since saints are representatives of Yahweh’s kingdom, we as ambassadors should be cautious about participating in our nation’s politics. We should represent Yahweh’s Way, especially if the Ways of Yahweh contradict the ways of our country’s government.
Think about this: ambassadorships are critical appointments, only conferred on those who can properly represent the ideals and interests of the country they represent. If an ambassador fails to uphold these standards, he or she can disqualify themselves from representing their country and be removed from their post!
Since Yahweh calls saints’ ambassadors for Messiah, it is important to note that worldly ambassadors do not vote in their host country. Not only that, but the Vienna Convention on diplomatic affairs (Article 41) restricts them from any involvement in their host country’s internal affairs. This is additional evidence that saints as ambassadors of the Heavenly Kingdom should be careful voting and setting their minds on earthly things (Philippians 3:19)
Being citizens and ambassadors of Heaven is why Messiah said, “My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants (i.e. saints) fight”.
John 18:36 Yah’shua answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Let us take another angle on whether or not we should be involved in the political process and vote. Who is behind the selection of leaders over the many countries of Earth? Who actually chooses them? Ultimately, do men select Presidents, Congressmen, Governors, etc? Or does Yahweh play a role in the election of our leaders? Over and over in the Scriptures we see Yahweh appoints leaders over countries.
Daniel 2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of Elohim for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: 21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Daniel 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest (#8215) of men.
8215 sh@phal (Aramaic) {shef-al’} • from 08214;; adj • AV – basest 1; 1 • 1) low, lowliest (of station)
This statement that Yahweh rules the kingdoms of men and gives these kingdoms to leaders who are “basest”, or lowliest of men, is remarkable and may explain the lack of character and ability in government leadership all over the world!
John 19:9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Yah’shua, Whence art thou? But Yah’shua gave him no answer. 10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? 11 Yah’shua answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
Proverbs 8:15 By me (Yahweh) kings reign, and princes decree justice. 16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.
Psalm 75:7 But Elohim is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.
Think about this, Yahweh determines the winners of our elected leaders in advance. In the end, the “will of the people” has no power or effect because Yahweh is in charge of the outcome of elections.
Yahweh is working out His Master Plan for the ages. He is allowing mankind to find out that its own ways, governments, religions, educational systems, values and purposes do not work. Yahweh has already picked the leaders who will best work toward the fulfillment of His great plan for mankind.
A prime example of Yahweh placing an evil leader for His own purposes is the Egyptians Pharaoh, detailed in Exodus. Yahweh actually “hardened” both Pharoah’s and the Egyptian peoples’ hearts to lead them to subjugate the Israelites and refused to free them to worship Him (Exodus 9:12, 10:1, 20, 27 and 11:10).
Yahweh ultimately glorified Himself in several respects through His placement of this evil leader. He accomplished at least 5 goals: 1) that the Egyptians could “know that there is none like Me in all the earth” (Exodus 9:14), 2) that His “power” would be demonstrated (Exodus 9:16), 3) that His “Name might be declared in all the earth” (Exodus 9:16), 4) that Yahweh would “gain honor over Pharaoh, his army, chariots, and horsemen” and so they would “know that I am Yahweh” (Exodus 14:16-17), and 5) that He could demonstrate “His mercy” to the Israelites (Romans 9:14-17).
Exodus 9:13 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says Yahweh Elohim of the Hebrews: “Let My people go, that they may serve Me, 14 “for at this time I will send all My plagues to your very heart, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth. 15 “Now if I had stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, then you would have been cut off from the earth. 16 “But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. 17 “As yet you exalt yourself (i.e. Pharaoh) against My people in that you will not let them go. (NKJ)
Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with Yahweh? Certainly not! 15 For He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.” 16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of Yahweh who shows mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. (NKJ)
Exodus 14:15 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. 16 “But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. 17 “And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18 “Then the Egyptians shall know that I am Yahweh, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.” (NKJ)
This example of the wicked leader Pharaoh whom Yahweh raised up foreshadows the Anti-Messiah to come at the end of this age. Egypt in the Bible often symbolizes the world. Yahweh will allow the Anti-Messiah to be fully indwelt by hasatan and to do all manner of miracles in order to deceive the world into worshiping him.
This will be an important part of the Yahweh’s master plan for the ages and will demonstrate to man, as all evil leaders through the ages have, that he is unable to govern himself and his critical need for Messiah to rule him. As we near the end of the present age, we look forward to the ushering in of the Millennial Kingdom when Yahweh Tsidkenu (our righteousness) will rule the earth and all righteousness will prevail.
Here is the point. You and I do not know whom Yahweh has already selected in advance as the “winner” that He wants in office. To cast a vote for someone other than Yahweh’s pre-selected winner is possibly to fight His purpose! That is serious and Scriptures says that it is possible to “fight against Yahweh”
Acts 5:39 But if it be of Elohim, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against Elohim.
Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey Yahweh rather than men.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Spirit, whom Yahweh hath given to them that obey him.
Let us look at the political process and those looking to be elected as our leaders. What are many of our politicians’ character? Exactly! How can any one vote for someone who is so prideful, self-absorbed, lies, and is not a saint? Basically, those who break most of Yahweh’s commandments.
Many people who seek political office are power hungry. They are often prideful and lust for power. Here is Yahweh’s perspective on self-exaltation.
Luke 14:11 “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (NKJ)
Luke 18:14 “I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” (NKJ)
One look at the many greedy, grasping demagogues who are modern politicians, with their pandering theatrics designed to exploit people and you will see that Messiah understood the corrupting nature of politics! As the old saying goes, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!
Saints understand the ways of Yahweh. To participate in a system in which men exalt themselves in the seeking of high office is to endorse a corrupt system emphasizing vanity, pride and arrogance. Politics is completely opposite to what Yahweh expects of all people when He commands them to humble themselves!
Let us be crystal clear that this article in no way intends to suggest that saints should ever resist or disobey civil authority unless that authority directly contradicts the authority of Yahweh (Acts 5:29). In fact, Scriptures are clear we are supposed to submit ourselves to our government.
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of Yahweh,
13 Therefore submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Sovereign’s sake, whether to the king as supreme, 14 or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good.
17 Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear Yahweh. Honor the king. (NKJ)
Matthew 22:17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18 But Yah’shua perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21 They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto Yahweh the things that are Yahweh’s.
Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from Yahweh, and the authorities that exist are appointed by Yahweh. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of Yahweh, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is Yahweh’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is Yahweh’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are Yahweh’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. (NKJ)
Here is an interesting question. If Messiah were here today, would He vote? Would He participate in the politics of this world? Would He encourage His followers to be involved in the politics of this world and vote? Scriptures clearly state that saints are those who emulate Messiah YahwehShua. So, one has to really consider what Messiah would do when it comes to participating in political affairs of men.
1 Peter 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Messiah also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Messiah Yahwehshua:
1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him (i.e. Messiah) ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
Messiah would not be involved in politics nor vote because He understands the origin of the governments of this world and who is behind them. Notice in the following verse in Matthew that Yah’shua did not challenge Satan’s claim that he had the kingdoms of the world to give to Him.
Matthew 4:1 Then was Yah’shua led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of Yahweh, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of Yahweh. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of Yahweh, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Yah’shua said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt Yahweh thy Elohim. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Yah’shua unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship Yahweh thy Elohim, and him only shalt thou serve.
The kingdoms of this world are controlled by Satan. At no point did Messiah say to Satan, “These kingdoms are not yours to give”. He said no such thing. Why? Because He knew that the governments, that is the kingdoms of this world, are Satan’s. Therefore, He rejected the terms for receiving these kingdoms from the one who did have authority to offer them. Still not convinced that Satan is in charge of this world? Let us review a few more Scriptures. Satan is the “prince of this world”, the “god of this world”, and the “prince of the power of the air”.
John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. (also see John 14:30, and 16:11)
2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our evangel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious evangel of Messiah, who is the image of Elohim, should shine unto them.
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Not only is Satan in charge of this world but Satan deceives the entire world and the whole world lies under his sway.
Revelation12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
1 John 5:19 We know that we are of Yahweh, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one (NKJ).
Again, Yah’shua never disputed Satan’s claim that he had the kingdoms of this world to give (Matthew 4:10). Satan IS the prince (John 12:31, 14:30, and 16:11) and the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). Sometimes we believe that our fight is against other humans and that by getting involved in politics and voting in our elections we can change the world. But the truth is saints’ fight is against spiritual wickedness in high places. And in charge of the spiritual wickedness in high places is Satan.
Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of Yahweh, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Daniel 10:12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy Elohim, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. 13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
20 Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. 21 But I will shew thee that which is noted in the scripture of truth: and there is none that holdeth with me in these things, but Michael your prince.
Yahweh has allowed Satan at this time to control this world with other fallen spirits (demons). Together they deceive, confuse, and exert far-reaching influence over all the governments and activities on Earth. Understand governments of men cannot be made righteous. They must be removed by Yahweh through His plan of the ages. And His plan for the ages includes the Second Coming of Messiah who at that time will put down all governments of men and set up His righteous government on earth. At this time Messiah will be King of kings and Sovereign of sovereigns (Revelations 19:6).
Many believe that if all saints work together in the political arena and vote for a particular candidate this will make the world and its governments a safer and better place for everyone. And that through politics and voting we can bring peace, happiness and prosperity to all. Maybe in the short term some improvements may be made, but in the long-term men’s governments will fail.
At Messiah first coming He did not come to fix the problems of this world. He came to announce the coming of a better world at His Second Coming. Therefore, saints should be careful in participating in politics and the elections of leaders and should focus their efforts on the soon-to-come righteous government of Yahweh Messiah. Although we are in this world, we are not supposed to be of this world. Remember saints are citizens of Heaven and ambassadors of Yahweh’s Heavenly kingdom.
John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Messiah with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of Yahweh with idols? for ye are the temple of the living Elohim; as Yahweh hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their Elohim, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith Yahweh, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you
Revelation 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. 4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and Yahweh hath remembered her iniquities.
Remember, as saints we have turned from our sins and the ways of the world controlled by Satan and his dominion and turned to the truth and ways of our Savior, Yahweh Messiah.
Saints will be true citizens of this world at Messiah’s Second Coming when He sets up His Earthly kingdom. At that time believers will be Priests and Kings with Messiah, administrators of our Savior’s righteousness.
Revelation 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to Yahweh by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our Elohim kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
Daniel 7:27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Yahweh, and of his Messiah; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
From the beginning, the ideal state of leadership on Earth is having Yahweh Messiah as King of kings and Sovereign of sovereigns ruling over His people! This ideal state changed when Yahweh allowed Israel to have a man rule over them. Prior to that, Yahweh was their leader. That man who was initially allowed by Yahweh to rule over them was Saul. And if you read about Saul as king and all the following kings of Yahweh’s people, we see that this was a poor choice to want a man as their leader as opposed to Yahweh. It is interesting to note that Yahweh initially chose Saul, a very flawed man, as their King (Daniel 4:17).
1 Samuel 8:1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel. 2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba. 3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment. 4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, 5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto Yahweh. 7 And Yahweh said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
1 Samuel 8:19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; 20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. 21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Yahweh. 22 And Yahweh said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king.
1 Samuel 9:17 And when Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people.
Again, saints look forward to the return of Yahweh Messiah and the establishment of His government. During Messiah’s 1,000-year rule as King of kings and Sovereign of sovereigns (Revelation 17:14 and 19:16) with saints as priests and kings, there will be peace, happiness, and love. All social, political, and ecological problems will be corrected through the righteous administration of YahwehShua and His saints. What a glorious time it will be!!! This is the country where I want my citizenship!
Micah 4:1 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of Yahweh shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. 2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, and to the house of the El of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem. 3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. 4 But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of Yahweh of hosts hath spoken it. (also see Isaiah 2:1-4)
Zechariah 14:8 And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. 9 And Yahweh shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Yahweh, and his name one.
Zephaniah 3:15 Yahweh hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even Yahweh, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. 17 Yahweh thy Elohim in the midst of thee is mighty;
Although it may not be Yahweh’s will for saints to be involved in politics and vote for the leaders of their country, Scriptures are clear that we can and should pray for our leaders. We should pray that Yahweh will provide leaders who will work to make it possible for believers to live a quiet and peaceable life.
1 Timothy 2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all holiness and honesty. 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of YahwehShua our Saviour;
And we should never revile nor speak badly of our leaders, only speaking out on those issues which break Yahweh’s laws. An example would be abortion.
1 Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear Yahweh. Honour the king.
Exodus 22:28 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.
We conclude that saints should be cautious getting involved in politics and voting for leaders. The chance of a candidate for office being righteous is very low.
Although saints more than likely should not be involved in politics, we may enjoy certain privileges in our home countries that would be okay to participate including bond issues, road taxes, school taxes, and other non-leadership issues.
Study the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation and you will not find a single instance of saints being involved in politics and voting for their leaders. It is interesting to note that Paul claimed the legal protection of his Roman citizenship (Acts 22:25-29) but never participated politically nor taught believers to be involved in the politics of the Roman Empire.
Saints’ true citizenship is of Heaven, not of Earth. We are ambassadors of the Heavenly kingdom. Also, Scriptures are clear; Yahweh puts in leaders He chooses for His purpose. Saints have to be careful that they are not going against Yahweh’s plan of the ages.
The true servants of Yahweh have come out of this world and its corrupt ways (2 Corinthians 6:17 and Revelation 18:4). Scriptures tell us that our involvement in the world is to proclaim the evangel that actually condemns this world not to be involved in its politics and elections of leaders.
HalleluYah
