Was Yah’shua fully Yahweh on this earth?
This is a great question that has confused people through the ages. A lot of people believe that Yah’shua, the name of Messiah while on this earth, was both fully Yahweh and man. And most Christian denominations teach the same concept through incorrect names of “Jesus” and “God”. And what is taught is Yah’shua was both 100% Yahweh and 100% man while on this earth.
First, I want to be clear that Scriptures show us that Yah’shua was the “dabar” (Hebrew) or “word” (of) Yahweh who was made flesh. And Yah’shua, who became flesh and blood, was the “dabar” Yahweh of the Old Testament who was both seen and heard by the patriarchs. For more information on this very important truth, please read “The Great Riddle – What is the Son’s Glorified Name”.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (Also see Philippians 2:5-8 and Hebrews 2:17 below)
And Scriptures tells us that the full character and purpose of Father Yahweh was in Yah’shua. The book of Colossians tells us “for in him dwell all the fulness of the headship bodily” and that “it pleased the Father that in him should all the fulness dwell” And we read in the book of John Yah’shua telling Philip “He that has seen me has seen the Father” and “ I and my Father are one”.
Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the assembly: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the headship bodily.
John 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Sovereign, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Yah’shua saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
John 10:26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.
36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of Yahweh? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
But the truth is when the “dabar” or “word” (of) Yahweh became flesh and dwelt among us, it came with certain restrictions and limitations of being in a human body. We will look at seven examples in Scriptures that clearly show that Yah’shua was not fully 100% Yahweh while on this earth.
I. Messiah made Himself of no reputation by coming down to earth as a man and was made a little lower than Elohim. If Yah’shua was made a little lower then Elohim, how could Yah’shua be fully Yahweh in all ways? And why would Messiah ask the Father to glorify Himself after finishing His works on earth if He wasn’t 100% Yahweh?
Hebrews 2:6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels (correct translation is Elohim); thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: 8 Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him. 9 But we see Yah’shua, who was made a little lower than the angels (correct translation is Elohim) for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of Yahweh should taste death for every man.
Psalm 8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels (correct translation is Elohim), and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Messiah YahwehShua: 6 Who, being in the form of Elohim, thought it not robbery to be equal with Yahweh: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the stake. (Also read John 1:14 above).
Hebrews 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to Elohim, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
II. Yah’shua was flesh and blood and was made in the likeness of men (John 1:14, Philippians 2:7-8 and Hebrew 2:17). Scriptures tells us that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of Yahweh. If Yah’shua was flesh and blood and flesh and blood can not inherit the kingdom of Yahweh, how could Yah’shua be 100% fully Yahweh on this earth?
John 19:33 But when they came to Yah’shua, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: 34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
1 Corinthians 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of Yahweh; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
III. As we have just read in John 1:14, Philippians 2:7-8 and John 19:34, Yah’shua was flesh and blood. We also know through Scriptures that Yahweh is Spirit. Again, how could Yah’shua be fully Yahweh in all ways?
John 4:24 Yahweh is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 3:5 Yah’shua answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of Yahweh. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
IV. Yah’shua was tempted in all ways, yet Yahweh cannot be tempted. It is starting to become clear that Yah’shua was not fully 100% Yahweh in all ways while a man on this earth.
Matthew 4:1 Then was Yah’shua led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
Hebrew 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of Yahweh: for Yahweh cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
V. Messiah made Himself of no reputation on this earth to suffer, while Yahweh is King of Kings and Sovereign of Sovereigns.
Revelations 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called Dabar Yahweh. 14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty Yahweh. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND SOVEREIGN OF SOVEREIGNS.
Deuteronomy 10:17 For Yahweh your Elohim is Elohim of elohim, and Sovereign of sovereigns, a great Elohim, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
VI. Yah’shua humbled Himself and became obedient unto death. Yahweh is immortal.
Romans 14:9 For to this end Messiah both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Sovereign both of the dead and living.
Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the stake.
1 Timothy 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Sovereign of sovereigns; 16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
VII. Messiah did not have the great name of Yahweh while a man on this earth, but was given the name of Yah’shua, a common man’s name. Although it is a common man’s name, it is connected to the Father because “Yah’shua” means “Yah saves”. At His resurrection, He was again given the glory he once had with the Father and the name above all names, the great name of Yahweh(Shua). For more information on Messiah’s glorified name, please read “The Great Riddle – What is the Son’s Glorified Name” and “The Name of Inheritance” by George Gabler.
John 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Philippians 2:9 Wherefore Yahweh also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of YahwehShua every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that YahwehShua Messiah is Sovereign, to the glory of Yahweh the Father.
Hebrew 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Psalm 8:1 O YAHWEH our Sovereign, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
Psalm 148:13 Let them praise the name of Yahweh: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.
Ephesians 1:20 Which he wrought in Messiah, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, 21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
Psalm 89:24 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn (power) be exalted (raised).
There are no Scriptures in the Bible that say Yah’shua was fully 100% Yahweh on this earth while a man. In fact Scriptures tell us that He became sin (2 Corinthians 5:21) and a curse (Galatians 3:13) according to the law (Deuteronomy 21:22-23) and his prophetic human name was blotted out of the book of life (Deuteronomy 29:20). Plus we have just covered seven examples of why Yah’shua was not 100% Yahweh while a man on this earth.
Although Yah’shua was not fully 100%Yahweh on this earth, He had the full character and purpose of the Father Yahweh while a man. As Yah’shua stated to Philip in the book of John, “Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me” and “I and my Father are one”. And as we already covered in Colossians it states “for in him dwell all the fulness of the headship bodily” and that “it pleased the Father that in him should all the fulness dwell” But let us be clear, these verses do not say Yah’shua while a man on this earth was 100% Yahweh.
And although Yah’shua had the Spirit with power, Messiah purposely limited Himself by becoming flesh and blood, which has certain restrictions. His moral attributes, such as love, holiness, truth were not set-aside by becoming flesh and blood. Yah’shua was still the “dabar” or “word” who was made flesh (John 1:14). But by becoming flesh, He set aside many attributes of being Yahweh which we have covered extensively.
